Our Best of the Vikings tour will be up front and personal visiting the home of the Vikings and its people by land and sea.

52Best Annual Trips: For 15 years we have emailed a weekly story to friends which Readership has grown to 18,500 people in 78 countries. Once a year we create a fun filled and well-priced tour for our Readers and friends. To date we have completed 16 trips from Russia, to China, to Argentina and many countries in between. We go because we want to see the places and people and end up making many lifelong friends along the way.

Best of the Vikings 2016 Tour: This year we will experience the Best of the Vikings by traveling by land and sea to see their cities and visit their people. We begin with two nights in Copenhagen and then continue to Odense, Hans Christian Andersen’s home. From here we travel through the Jutland Peninsula for a spectacular journey to Hardangerfjord by ferry where the views become more and more stunning. For two nights with are in the fascinating city of Bergen then enjoy a cruise on the amazing Sognefjord where the mountains meet the sea. After a good night’s rest we travel through fairytale landscapes to Karlstad and stop at the Gripsholm Castle before reaching Stockholm which is set on 14 islands with canals, palaces, and parks. 13-Day Itinerary

Day 1: September 23, 2016 – Friday over the Atlantic Ocean (Dinner, Breakfast) – Our Best of the Vikings Group Air will be leaving the DFW International Airport arriving the next day at the Copenhagen International Airport which is the largest Nordic airport and serves 26.6 million passengers a year.

Day 2: September 24, 2016 – Saturday in Copenhagen (Dinner) – We are met at the airport which is on Amager Island 5 miles south of Copenhagen and taken by our Scenic Bus Cruiser to our hotel to check in. The rest of the day is free to explore the Danish capital. Tonight is our Welcoming Dinner and we meet our Tour Director, Lili Kozany – “my goal is to help you experience the most comprehensive and memorable vacation ever. Let me show you how wonderful Scandinavia is. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy – everything else is taken care of!”

Day 3: September 25, 2016 – Sunday in Copenhagen (Breakfast) – Day at leisure in the capital of the oldest kingdom in the world. Besides many interesting landmarks and architectural masterpieces, we see some of the more famous sights on your included orientation drive. An optional tour of Zealand’s castles is also available.

Day 4: September 26, 2016 – Monday in Odense–Frederikshavn (Breakfast, Dinner) – After breakfast, we start the journey northwards, enjoying the drive across the Great Belt Bridge, which will connect us to the fairytale island of Funen. Stop in Odense, Hans Christian Andersen’s home town, and via the Little Belt waterway, head for Frederikshavn on the rural Jutland Peninsula for an overnight.

Day 5: September 27, 2016 – Tuesday in Gothenburg and Oslo (Breakfast) – A pleasant Ferry ride from Frederikshavn across the strategic Kattegat to Gothenburg, Sweden’s thriving second-largest city and one of Europe’s major seaports. After an orientation drive, we follow the inland route and cross into Norway. Evening arrival in Oslo.

Day 6: September 28, 2016 – Wednesday in Oslo – (Breakfast, Dinner) – Gustav Vigeland’s sculptures are among the highlights of the included morning sightseeing tour; also see the soaring Oslo City Hall, National Theater, Broadcasting House, Parliament, and Akershus Castle. In the afternoon, we drive through the Telemark region to our overnight hotel.

Day 7: September 29, 2016 – Thursday in Vemork to Bergen (Breakfast) – Take the scenic route this morning for a visit to Vemork, where the heavy water plant was blown up by a commando unit of British and Norwegians known as the Heroes of Telemark. Visit the Vemork Museum, then proceed through the Telemark region with its lakes, winding valleys, and rugged gorges backed by towering mountains. Ferry across the Hardangerfjord from Utne to Kvanndal. Continue to Bergen, Norway’s picture-perfect Hanseatic seaport. En route, we have a picture stop at Steindalsfossen Waterfall.

Day 8: September 30, 2016 – Friday in Bergen (Breakfast) – Built on seven hills with the fjords on one side and 1,000-foot Mount Fløyen on the other, Bergen was the home of composer Grieg. The optional sightseeing excursion takes in the main sights, including the Hanseatic Museum, one of the landmarks of Bergen’s bayside area, and also a panoramic view of the city from one of the surrounding hills.

Day 9: October 1, 2016 – Saturday on Sognefjord Cruise to Fagernes – (Breakfast, Dinner) – More spectacular scenery as we drive towards the Sognefjord, where we embark for a breathtaking Cruise on one of Norway’s most mighty fjords. Today may well be the highlight of your journey. Overnight in Fagernes.

Day 10: October 2, 2016 –  Sunday from Lillehammer to Lake Mjøsa to Karlstad – (Breakfast) – First to Lillehammer which was host to the 1994 Winter Olympics. Then, a scenic drive along beautiful Lake Mjøsa and continue towards Sweden through Värmland’s unspoiled wilderness of forest and lakes to Karlstad, located by Sweden’s largest lake, Lake Vänern.

Day 11: October 3, 2016 – Monday from Karlstad to Stockholm (Breakfast) – We leave Karlstad this morning and head east towards Stockholm via Alfred Nobel’s Bofors to Mariefred, an idyllic little town, where we view the majestic Gripsholm Castle, built in an enchanting rural setting. On to the Swedish capital whose beauty is due to its unique setting on 14 islands between Lake Mäleren and the Baltic Sea.

Day 12: October 4, 2016 – Tuesday in Stockholm (Breakfast, Dinner) – This is perhaps the most beautiful of the Scandinavian capitals. The crystalline waters that flow through its intersecting canals give a luminous appearance to palaces, castles, and parks. Our included city sightseeing takes in all the highlights.

Day 13: October 5, 2016 – Wednesday in Stockholm (Breakfast) – Our vacation ends with breakfast this morning in Stockholm. Our Best of the Vikings Group Air will leave later this morning, boarding the coach to the airport and flying to Dallas arriving late afternoon the same day.
